JamesGang Caneworks cane is carefully hand-processed by our own cane gouger,  assuring you unsurpassed quality and consistency!  We are convinced that once you try this cane, you will be impressed.  We hope that you find that using this cane will make your reedmaking life just a bit easier!

The cane is processed by the order.  Please allow a couple of weeks for delivery.

Oboe Cane, Gouged Only - $2.25 per piece, $27 per dozen.  (Please specify 10-10.5mm or 10.5-11mm)

Oboe Cane, Shaped, Gilbert -1 shape.  $2.50 per piece, $30 per dozen. (Please specify 10-10.5mm or 10.5-11mm)

English Horn Cane, Gouged Only - $2.75 per piece, $33 per dozen.  (12-12.5mm only)

English Horn Cane, Shaped, Gilbert -1 shape.  $3 per piece, $36 per dozen. (12-12.5mm only)

All Cane is Hand-Processed for Madera.  This Cane Is NOT Factory Processed.

REEDCASES

Believe it or not, I was the one that thought of doing this 10 or so years ago. 

Once people saw my display at the IDRS Convention in West Virginia, they were everywhere!

All reedcases available are pictured.

  Cases are one of a kind and you are looking at the exact cases that I have in stock. 

Cases not pictured can be made up for you, but there is a 1 week wait time for custom cases.

These little reedcases fit beautifully in almost all oboe cases!

I can usually make up the following reedcases custom for you in about a week.

We are delighted to offer Quality Handmade Oboe and English horn reeds!

These reeds are hand made by me. 

They are all stable. consistant reeds with a nice dark sound. "Mad Oboe" is Madera's own "house brand" reed.

I use all different kinds of staples and many different kinds of cane.  For my oboe reeds I use a Gilbert gouging machine and a Mack+ shape.  The English horn cane I use is Jamesgang Caneworks gouged, and I shape it with a Gilbert -1 EH shape.

 FAQs

Oboe & English horn reeds are quite personal player to player, which is why most professional oboists make their own reeds.  If you are buying reeds, the trick is to find a reed source that makes reeds that you like to play on , then to  order the reeds in enough time to make sure that you have them when you need them..  The only way to know if a reed will be suitable for you is to try it.  Keep in mind, though, that since the reeds are hand-made from a natural substance (cane), no two reeds, even by the same maker will feel and play exactly alike.
